Everything you need for Ios in one place
The main settlement of Ios island is located at the top of a hill above the port, featuring characteristic white architecture and narrow cobblestone alleys. It contains several churches, traditional taverns and shops, and is reached by a walkway that climbs up the hillside. In the evening it becomes the vibrant social hub of the island, while during the day it offers views of the Aegean Sea and the surrounding islands.
The traditional Cycladic windmills on the hill above Chora are one of the iconic symbols of Ios. Built in the 16th and 17th centuries for grinding grain, this spot today offers a view of the main settlement and the Aegean Sea.
On the northern part of Ios lies an archaeological site which, according to tradition, is associated with the tomb of the poet Homer. A short hiking trail leads to the viewpoint, and from the site there is a view of the northern coast of the island.
A visit to the prehistoric site of Skarkos offers insight into one of the best-preserved early Bronze Age settlements in the Cyclades.
