Novigrad is a small coastal town on the western shore of Istria, built on what was once an island later connected to the mainland. Its old core consists of narrow stone streets, medieval walls, and the Romanesque church of St. Pelagius with its distinctive bell tower. The town is known for its fishing tradition, excellent Istrian gastronomy, and a pleasant seaside promenade, making it a great choice for a more peaceful holiday and exploration of western Istria.

The main church of Novigrad is dedicated to the city's patron saints, Saint Pelagius and Saint Maximus. It received its current appearance in the 18th century, while the crypt beneath the altar contains the remains of older church structures and relics of the saints. The interior is adorned with valuable works of art, and the bell tower is one of the most recognizable symbols of Novigrad.
This contemporary museum is dedicated to the rich history of Novigrad through stone monuments, ancient inscriptions, and archaeological finds from the Roman, early Christian, and medieval periods. The most renowned part of the exhibition is the collection of early medieval stone reliefs and decorative fragments, for which the Lapidarium is recognized well beyond Croatia.
The remains of Venetian fortifications from the 15th and 16th centuries surround the peninsula on which the old town is located. The preserved towers and sections of the walls are a reminder of the period when Novigrad was an important Venetian port on the Adriatic. A walk along the walls offers a beautiful view of the sea and the Novigrad coastline.
