Everything you need for Palermo in one place
A 12th-century cathedral that blends Norman, Arab, Gothic, and Baroque elements, reflecting the rich history of Sicily. In the crypt rest Norman kings, among them Emperor Frederick II. Visitors can also tour the cathedral roof, which offers a view over the historic center of Palermo.
The oldest royal residence in Europe still in use, built in the 9th century on the foundations of an Arab fortress. Within its complex is the Cappella Palatina, the private chapel of the Norman kings, renowned for its 12th-century golden mosaics that cover almost the entire interior. Today the palace serves as the seat of the Sicilian Regional Parliament.
The oldest and largest city market in Palermo, active since the Arab period. The stalls sell fresh fish, fruit, vegetables, and traditional street food such as pane e panelle and sfincione. The market stretches through several streets between Via Ballarò and Piazza del Carmine, retaining an authentic atmosphere throughout the year.
