Perast has only 350 permanent residents, no cars in the center, and is too small for cruise groups — making it a rare exception in the Bay of Kotor. Along its kilometer-long Riva promenade stand 16 noble palaces and 17 churches, and in front of it lie two islands: the artificial Gospa od Škrpjela, formed by the throwing of stones since 1452, and the natural Sveti Đorđe with its Benedictine monastery surrounded by cypress trees. You leave your car 200 meters outside the center and walk from that point on. If Kotor wears you out with its crowds, Perast is 13 kilometers away — and feels like a different world.
