Everything you need for Syros in one place
Ermoupoli is the administrative center of the South Aegean Islands and one of the most significant commercial and shipping centers in Greece from the 19th century. Neoclassical palaces, colorful facades, and marble sidewalks bear witness to a period when the city was among the wealthiest ports in the country. Today it is known for its elegant architecture, lively squares, and the promenade along the harbor, which forms the heart of everyday life on Syros.
The central square of Ermoupoli is considered one of the most famous neoclassical squares in Greece — it was designed by French architect Klenze, inspired by European city squares. It is dominated by the neoclassical Town Hall building from 1876, surrounded by cafes and palm trees.
Ano Syros is a medieval Catholic settlement on top of a hill above Ermoupoli, established during Venetian rule in the 13th century. Narrow cobblestone streets, white-and-blue houses, and the Church of San Giorgio offer views of the port of Ermoupoli and the surrounding islands.
