Alpe di Siusi

Alpe di Siusi

Alpe di Siusi (Seiser Alm) is the largest high-altitude alpine meadow in Europe: around 56 square kilometres of grassland between 1,680 and 2,350 metres, above which rise Sassolungo, Sassopiatto, and Sciliar. From Ortisei, the plateau is reached by gondola, without a car, and wide, gentle paths wind between log cabins and mountain huts. In summer the meadows are carpeted with wildflowers, while in winter the plateau becomes a destination for skiing, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. Vehicle access to the plateau itself is restricted, making the gondola from Ortisei the most straightforward way up.
