A coastal town approximately 60 km south of Rome, known for its sandy beaches, fishing harbor, and its significant role during World War II — on January 22, 1944, the Allied landings (Operation Shingle) took place here during the liberation of Italy. Visitors can explore the beaches, historical sites connected to the war (a memorial center, a British and an American military cemetery), as well as the remains of Nero's villa by the sea — a seaside retreat of the Roman emperor from the 1st century AD. Thanks to a direct rail connection (FL8 line from Roma Termini, 70 minutes), it is a popular day trip from Rome.
