Busalp and Sledging

A bus from Grindelwald climbs up to the mountain alp of Busalp, which has a restaurant and views of the Eiger. In winter, Busalp is the starting point for sledging back down to the village. More experienced sledgers can set off from the Faulhorn, reached by a several-hour winter hike from First, and tackle the Big Pintenfritz — one of the longest sledging runs in Europe. The run is named after Fritz Boren, known as Pintenfric, the former owner of the mountain hotel on the Faulhorn. Trail conditions depend on snow cover, so it is worth checking the status before setting out, and sledging is best in the morning. In summer, Busalp serves as the starting point for mountain walks.
