Cinque Torri: Open-Air World War I Museum

The five stone towers rising above the road to the Falzarego Pass formed part of the Italian front line facing Austro-Hungarian positions during the First World War. The surrounding area has been restored to include trenches, artillery emplacements and shelters, all connected by easy paths with information boards describing soldiers' lives in the mountains. A visit can last anywhere from half an hour to half a day. The towers are reached by chairlift from Bai de Dones, and in winter the area becomes a ski resort with the towers as a dramatic backdrop.
