Ötztal Glacier Road

A scenic toll road approximately 13 kilometres long, climbing from Sölden to the Retenbachferner glacier and then continuing through a 1.8-kilometre tunnel — the highest road tunnel in Europe — to the Tiefenbachferner glacier. At the top are the BIG3 viewpoints at Schwarze Schneid and Tiefenbachkogl, complete with a glass bridge. In autumn, the alpine ski World Cup season opens on the Retenbachferner. The road is seasonal: it is closed to public traffic in winter, and the glaciers can then only be reached on skis via the Sölden ski area.
