Zugspitze

Germany's highest peak, at 2,962 metres. The summit can be reached by cable car from the Eibsee in ten minutes, or by rack railway from Garmisch-Partenkirchen in seventy-five; from the Austrian side, a cable car runs from Ehrwald. At the top you will find the gilded summit cross, a panorama stretching across four countries, and one of Germany's last remaining glaciers. The cable cars and the railway undergo annual maintenance at different times, so check which line is running before you set out.
