Herculaneum

An ancient Roman city destroyed by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD. Thanks to the thick layers of volcanic material, numerous details have been preserved, such as wooden structures, mosaics, and frescoes that rarely survive at other archaeological sites. It is smaller and more manageable than Pompeii, and can be explored in just a few hours.
