A steep path from the Lower Town leads through a gate into the Upper Town — once the heart of the Byzantine Kastro, with the church of Agia Sofia perched on the edge of a cliff and a panoramic view of the Laconian Gulf. The ascent takes 20-30 minutes, and at the top there is no tourist infrastructure or cafes, only ruins and the view. An early morning departure or one hour before sunset is recommended.
