Lagazuoi: Cable Car and War Galleries

From the Falzarego Pass, a cable car reaches the summit of Piccolo Lagazuoi in just a few minutes. During the First World War, Italian and Austro-Hungarian soldiers riddled this mountain with kilometres of tunnels in an effort to blow up each other's positions. The top offers sweeping views of the Dolomites, and the restored trenches and positions form part of a large open-air museum. The descent through the war gallery is steep, dark and damp, and requires a helmet, a torch and sturdy footwear — it is not suitable for young children.
