Lago di Bolsena

The largest volcanic lake in Italy and the fifth largest in the country, about 30 km northwest of Civita di Bagnoregio. Nestled in the caldera of an extinct volcano, the lake has two small islands (Bisentina and Martana) and beautiful beaches along its shores. Ideal for a half-day trip — swimming in summer, scenic walks through the fishing villages of Capodimonte and Marta with waterfront restaurants.
