Melk Abbey

Melk Abbey

A Benedictine abbey perched on a rocky outcrop above the Danube, one of the largest Baroque complexes in Europe and the gateway to the western end of the Wachau Valley. The tour takes in the Imperial Rooms, the Marble Hall, a terrace overlooking the valley, and the abbey's celebrated library, followed by the Baroque church and the grounds. The abbey is open year-round: during the warmer months visitors may explore freely, while in winter weekday visits are guided only. Melk can also be reached by boat during the sailing season.
