Messner Mountain Museum Firmian

At Sigmundskron Castle, perched on a hill to the south-west of Bolzano, the mountaineer Reinhold Messner has created the flagship of his mountain museums. The exhibition spreads across the castle's towers, courtyards and pathways, exploring the relationship between humankind and the mountains: religion, art, the history of alpinism, and the mountains as a meeting place for people from all walks of life. From the castle walls, sweeping views open over Bolzano and the Adige Valley, making the journey up to the castle part of the experience itself.
