An hour and a half drive southeast of Mystras, Monemvasia is a Byzantine fortification on a detached rocky promontory, explored on foot through a narrow gate upon arrival. The upper town and lower town require a good 3-4 hours of walking, with lunch at one of the tavernas in the lower town. Return to Mystras in the late afternoon.
