Montserrat

A Benedictine monastery nestled among the distinctive rocky peaks of the Montserrat mountain, about an hour's drive from Barcelona. It is known for the statue of the Black Madonna, the patron saint of Catalonia, as well as for its panoramic viewpoints and hiking trails that wind through the mountain massif. The monastery can be reached by train from Barcelona, followed by a rack railway or cable car that leads to the summit.
