Muotas Muragl

Muotas Muragl

The funicular from Punt Muragl near Samedan travels to Muotas Muragl (Muottas Muragl) in around 10 minutes, covering an elevation gain of approximately 700 metres; it was built in the early 20th century as the first funicular in the Engadine. From the summit, you are treated to views over the Upper Engadine lakes, St. Moritz, and the peaks of Piz Palü and Piz Bernina, and the spot is particularly renowned for its sunsets. There are no ski runs here: in winter, the options include a toboggan run down to the lower station, a well-kept 'philosophers' path', and a snowshoe trail. The lower station is reached from St. Moritz by Rhaetian Railway train, and it is worth checking the funicular timetable before you set off.
