Nyon

Nyon

Nyon stands on the remains of the Roman town of Noviodunum, the centre of the colony Colonia Iulia Equestris, founded around 45 BC during the lifetime of Julius Caesar. The Roman Museum is housed in the underground foundations of a 1st-century AD basilica, an administrative building on the site of the former forum. The museum displays finds from excavations: everyday objects, wall paintings, and sculptures. The castle overlooking the lake contains the History Museum and a porcelain museum, featuring porcelain produced in Nyon between 1781 and 1813. It makes for a short and peaceful excursion for anyone interested in the Roman past of the lake shore.
