Noto — a Baroque town an hour away

Noto is about an hour's drive from Syracuse and is one of the most beautiful Baroque towns in Sicily. After a devastating earthquake in 1693, the city was almost entirely rebuilt in a distinctive Baroque style, which is why it is now part of the UNESCO site Val di Noto. A walk along the main street Corso Vittorio Emanuele passes by the cathedral, palaces, and squares built from golden limestone, with the opportunity to try the famous Sicilian granita.
