Paklenica

A dramatic canyon on the southern slopes of the Velebit mountain, a favorite destination for hikers and climbers. Two gorges — Velika Paklenica and Mala Paklenica — offer trails for all fitness levels, from walks along the stream to full-day ascents. Hidden within Velika Paklenica is an underground military complex, built between 1950 and 1953 and kept secret until 1991, which has been open to visitors since 2016 as a space dedicated to hiking and climbing. The park entrance is near Starigrad, right on the shore of the Adriatic Sea.
