Pazin — Castle and Pazin Pit

A town in the heart of the Istrian interior, offering a completely different experience from the coast. Above a deep karst abyss, the Pazin Pit, rises Pazin Castle — the best-preserved medieval fortress in Istria. The atmosphere of the chasm inspired Jules Verne for his novel 'Mathias Sandorf', and a zip-line now runs across the gorge. The narrow old town center, a museum inside the castle, and viewpoints over the abyss make for an excursion of a quieter, continental character, far from the crowds on the coast.
