Blue Eye

Halfway between Gjirokastra and the Ionian coast, the Blue Eye (Syri i Kaltër) is a karst spring whose water bubbles up from a deep, dark-blue pool surrounded by dense forest. The cold, crystal-clear water and shaded path make it a refreshing stop on the journey through the dry, rocky hinterland of the south. From wooden platforms you can see the water boiling up from the 'pupil' of the spring, while the shades of blue shift with the light.
