Provins — Medieval Town

An exceptionally well-preserved medieval town under UNESCO protection, located about 90 km southeast of Paris. During the 12th and 13th centuries, it was one of the most important trading centers in Europe and host to the famous Champagne fairs. The upper town is surrounded by defensive walls, towers and gates, while the Tour César is the most recognizable symbol of the town. In the lower town there are historic houses, underground passages and the church of Saint-Quiriace. During the season, medieval festivals and knightly performances are held.
