Renon: Cable Car, Tram and Earth Pyramids

A cable car from the centre of Bolzano lifts passengers up to the Renon plateau, from where a vintage narrow-gauge tram winds through meadows and forests towards Klobenstein, with views across the valley to the Dolomites. Near Klobenstein, a walking trail leads to the earth pyramids — tall pillars of clay and stone shaped by erosion, many of them topped with a balancing rock like a hat. The excursion combines a ride that is an experience in itself, a leisurely walk, and one of the most unusual landscapes in South Tyrol.
