A small mountain village in the interior of Madeira, surrounded by laurel forests protected by UNESCO. It is known as the starting point for several popular levadas and hiking trails that lead through green valleys and mountain landscapes of the island. The village is also home to a trout farm, while local restaurants offer specialties characteristic of this part of Madeira.
