Rila Monastery

The most significant Bulgarian monastery from the 10th century and one of the most important Orthodox monasteries in the Balkans, under UNESCO protection. It is located about 120 km south of Sofia, and is known for its vivid frescoes, architecture, and mountain surroundings. A visit typically includes a tour of the main church, the monastery museum, and a walk through the complex.
