The oldest continuously operating zoo in the world, founded in 1752 within the grounds of the Schönbrunn palace complex. It is home to more than 700 animal species, including giant pandas (Yang Yang and Yuan Yuan), koalas, polar bears, elephants, and Siberian tigers. The historic 18th-century pavilions are partially preserved (the imperial pavilion, the palm house), while modern exhibits meet contemporary animal welfare standards. One of the most beautiful family outings in Europe — easily combined with a visit to Schloss Schönbrunn. Conveniently accessible by U-Bahn metro (U4 station Hietzing).
