Šibenik is one of the oldest cities on the Adriatic Sea, known for its Gothic-Renaissance Cathedral of St. James, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Near the city stands the impressive Renaissance Fortress of St. Nicholas, which guards the entrance to the Šibenik Channel, also protected as UNESCO heritage.
