Syracuse — Ancient City and Ortigia

Syracuse is about an hour's drive from Catania and was one of the most powerful cities of the ancient world. Today, a visit naturally divides between the archaeological park with its Greek theatre and the island of Ortigia, where baroque squares, narrow streets, and a seafront promenade follow one after another. The visit can easily be rounded off with a trip to the fish market, one of the symbols of everyday life in Syracuse.
