Sportgastein via the Gastein Alpine Road

A toll mountain road from Bad Gastein leads into the closed upper end of the valley, at the heart of Hohe Tauern National Park. There are no settlements up here — only alpine meadows, mountain huts, and trailheads, and in winter the ski resort of Sportgastein, the highest in the valley. The road is open year-round; in winter, ski pass holders are exempt from the toll.
