Monastery of St. Mary

The Monastery of Saint Mary is located outside the main tourist routes and represents one of the more peaceful places in the vicinity of Himara. Its interior preserves frescoes that have survived the turbulent periods of Albanian history and today offer insight into the religious and artistic tradition of the region. Surrounded by nature and set away from the coast, the monastery offers a completely different atmosphere from the beaches and the summer crowds.
