Grossglockner High Alpine Road

Grossglockner High Alpine Road

A scenic mountain road that winds its way up from the valley through a series of hairpin bends to high alpine passes, with viewpoints at every turn and sweeping views of the Grossglockner, Austria's highest peak, and the Pasterze glacier. The road is tolled and open only during the warmer half of the year, closing in winter due to snow. Distances here are measured not in kilometres but in stops — viewpoints, roadside museums and short walks can easily fill an entire day.
