Montalcino is 25 km southwest of Pienza, the drive takes about 30 minutes. The town is compact — a 14th-century fortress, a few cantinas within the walls, and numerous enotecas along the main street where Brunello di Montalcino is served by the glass. Lunch at one of the restaurants on the piazza, return in the afternoon.
