Charles Kuonen Suspension Bridge

The Charles Kuonen Hängebrücke near Randa stretches 494 metres in length and reaches a maximum height of 85 metres above the Grabengufer gorge. The walkway across the bridge is 65 cm wide, and the valley floor is visible through the metal grating below your feet; crossing is free of charge. From Zermatt, take the train to Randa station, from where circular trail no. 69 leads to the bridge and back: approximately 8.6 km and four hours of walking, with around 988 metres of ascent and the same amount of descent. The bridge is open from May to October; the trail is not suitable for those with a fear of heights, and the bridge should not be crossed during stormy weather. This is a demanding, nearly full-day excursion.
