Kaprun Alpine Reservoirs

Two artificial lakes, Wasserfallboden and Mooserboden, nestled among the peaks above Kaprun at an altitude of around 2,040 metres. The Mooserboden dam is 107 metres tall and 500 metres long; visitors can walk along its crest with water on one side and a sheer drop on the other. You cannot drive all the way up in your own car: you park at the last available car park, then continue by shuttle bus and the Lärchwand inclined lift — the largest open funicular in Europe, which climbs a vertical difference of 431 metres. Access is open only during the warmer half of the year, from early June to mid-October.
