Mount Vitosha is located immediately next to Sofia and is the most popular excursion destination in the city's surroundings. The most common routes lead to the summit of Cherni Vrah (2,290 m), which offers views over the Sofia Valley and the surrounding mountains. Depending on the season and starting point, the excursion can include hiking, using the cable car, or exploring the mountain trails through the forested areas of Vitosha.
