Vitra Campus

Vitra Campus

Vitra Campus is located in Weil am Rhein, just across the German border. It came into being after a fire destroyed the Vitra furniture manufacturer's factory in 1981, with the reconstruction and subsequent expansions carried out by architects from several countries. The Vitra Design Museum by Frank Gehry, completed in 1989, was his first building in Europe. The Fire Station was the first building by Zaha Hadid, while Tadao Ando designed the Conference Pavilion, which is sunk into the ground around a square courtyard. VitraHaus and the Schaudepot are the work of Herzog & de Meuron. The production area of the campus can only be visited on an architecture tour.
