Praia do Carneiro

A small sandy beach at the mouth of the Douro River where it meets the Atlantic Ocean, in the Foz do Douro district of Porto. Distinguished by the Felgueiras lighthouse (Farol de Felgueiras) standing right on the beach — one of the symbols of Porto. Most beautiful at sunset when the waves crash against the rocks beneath the lighthouse in golden light. Close to the Foz promenade, with cafes and restaurants in the immediate vicinity. The water is Atlantic — colder than Mediterranean beaches. Buses 500 and 1M from the center of Porto.
