The central city square of Munich, dating back to 1158. It is dominated by the New Town Hall (Neues Rathaus) with its famous Glockenspiel, which daily displays moving figures. The square is the heart of the old city center and the starting point for sightseeing.
The square is free to visit. The Glockenspiel chimes at 11am, 12pm and 5pm (in summer also at 6pm). For the view from the top of the Neue Rathaus tower, a nominal ticket of around 3 EUR is charged.
