The most famous border crossing between East and West Berlin during the Cold War. It was here in 1961 that American and Soviet tanks faced each other during one of the most dangerous crises of that era. Today, the site features a replica of the border checkpoint and the iconic sign 'You are leaving the American sector', which serve as reminders of the city's divided history.
