South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology (Ötzi)

South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology (Ötzi)

The most visited museum in Bolzano is home to Ötzi, the Iceman who perished high in the Alps over 5,300 years ago and was discovered in 1991 in a glacier on the border between Italy and Austria. The mummy can be viewed through a small window into a cold chamber, and the exhibition around it displays his clothing, weapons, tools, and everything science has uncovered about how he lived and how he died. Thanks to its clear narrative and reconstructions, the museum appeals to both children and adults alike, making it an excellent starting point for exploring the city.
