Barrage Vauban

Barrage Vauban

The Vauban Dam is a 17th-century defensive structure, the work of military engineer Vauban, built across the Ill River so that the southern approach to the city could be flooded in the event of a siege. From its covered terrace, a panoramic view opens onto the Ponts Couverts, their towers, and the rooftops of the La Petite France district. Inside the structure there is a gallery space featuring copies of sculptures associated with Strasbourg Cathedral.
