A medieval system of defensive fortifications protected Brașov from the 14th to the 16th century. Several bastions have survived to this day, the most notable being the Weavers' Bastion, the Furriers' Bastion, and the Coopers' Bastion. These fortifications were built and maintained by craft guilds, each of which was responsible for defending a specific section of the city walls. The Weavers' Bastion is open to visitors today and houses exhibitions dedicated to the history of the city and its defensive system.
The ticket for Bastion of the Weavers includes access to the interior with a museum exhibition on the history of Brașov's fortifications. The other bastions are accessible free of charge from the outside.
