Basel Paper Mill

Basel Paper Mill

The Basel Paper Mill (Basler Papiermühle) is a Swiss museum of paper, writing, and printing, housed in a medieval paper mill in the St. Alban-Tal quarter. The complex includes the Gallician and Stegreif mills, which were restored by the Christoph Merian Stiftung and handed over in 1980 to the Basel Paper Mill Foundation for the establishment of the museum. Across four floors of exhibition spaces and workshops, visitors can follow the journey from handmade paper to a finished book. You can scoop your own sheet of paper, set type and print it, try your hand at calligraphy, or create marbled paper. The museum describes its collection as being of significant European standing.
