Basel Zoo (Zolli)

Basel Zoo, affectionately known to locals as 'Zolli', opened in 1874 and is located on Binningerstrasse. According to Switzerland Tourism, it is home to around 600 animal species from every continent, set across a landscaped park. A highlight is the Vivarium, housing approximately 5,000 aquatic, desert, and rainforest inhabitants. Alongside exotic species, visitors can also see domestic animals. In summer, the zoo makes for a pleasant outdoor stroll, while in winter the indoor enclosures allow for close-up viewing of the animals — making it an enjoyable visit year-round, especially for families with children.
