Torre de Belém

Torre de Belém

A historic 16th-century defensive tower built on the banks of the Tagus River as part of Lisbon's defense system. It is one of the finest examples of Manueline architecture, a unique Portuguese style that emerged during the Age of Discovery. Today it is one of Portugal's most recognizable symbols and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site together with the Jerónimos Monastery. From its terraces, visitors can enjoy a beautiful view of the river and the Belém district.
