The main church of the lower town of Monemvasia, built in the 12th century in Byzantine style. Inside the church is kept the miraculous icon of Christ Elkomenos, one of the most venerated religious artifacts in this part of Greece. The church is still in use today, and the annual pilgrimage attracts worshippers from across the Peloponnese.
Entrance is free, but appropriate attire is required. The church may be closed during midday hours — a morning or afternoon visit is recommended.
